Walrus at RAF Hendon. Pencil sketch by Ken Farmer.
A Vickers Supermarine Walrus caricature from EA Wren’s 1942 booklet “Oddentification.” So many things right about this drawing. 1) The cool pipe-smoking pilot; 2) The forward observer with telescope; 3) The scowling rear observer reluctantly helping the enemy; and 4) the Heil Hitler-ing Nazi Bf-109 pilot being saved from the Channel.
Vickers Supermarine Walrus — wings stowed.
Supermarine Walrus assuming a posture to winched onboard a vessel. Note both fore and aft hatches are secured yet the pilot’s canopy slides wide open up top. A versatile unsung workhorse of recon, spotting and ASR.
